Keeping Up With the Alpha Chi's

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

Readers,

Happy Fall! Our Real. Strong. Women. are ecstatic to be back on campus this semester, no matter how different it may be. From welcoming new members home virtually to the first day of school, we’ve enjoyed an exciting, yet socially distant September in order to keep our sisters together on campus!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 2020

Aug. 25 brought the first day of classes for the Buckeyes! While this year is inevitably different compared to past school years, we’re making the most of it—in contrast to former quarterback Cardale Jones’ infamous tweet, we did come here to play school. Our sisters have kicked off the year right, complete with study dates on the Oval, and virtually, to help one another grow academically. We wish all of our sister’s luck during the approaching exam season and are so proud of you already!

SISTERHOOD UPDATES

Our chapter also participated in Continuous Open Bidding this month, and we’ve welcomed nine new members home to Alpha Chi! We recruited completely virtually in order to keep our actives and potential new members safe. Huge thanks goes out to Anna Waterkotte, Vice President of Recruitment Information, and Summer Albouy, Vice President of Recruitment, who worked tirelessly to coordinate this process, as well as to all the actives who donated their time to recruit new sisters! And, to our amazing new members of PC 20, we cannot wait to watch you grow in our chapter—welcome home!

HOW WE’RE STAYING SAFE

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this semester looks quite different for us. In order to keep the membership safe, our chapter house is closed to all, apart from our live-in members. In the house, masks are mandated in common spaces, and only 26 sisters currently live-in, in order to decrease exposure. Also, our weekly chapter meetings are now virtual, as per guidance from the Ohio State University on student organizations and Columbus Public Health. While we miss chapter dinners, studying in the dining room and Bachelor nights on the couch, we understand the severity of this pandemic and are willing to make sacrifices in order to keep everyone safe. We look forward to the day when all of our sisters can (finally) be together!

UPCOMING

Next month is an incredibly important month to Alpha Chi Omega— Domestic Violence Awareness month. Unfortunately, we are not able to hold our typical philanthropy events due to COVID-19, but we are still completely committed to educating others and raising awareness for this amazing cause.

Along with DVA, October will bring something else we love—Ohio State football! Our sisters were overjoyed at the Big Ten’s decision to start play on Oct. 24 and cannot wait to cheer on the Buckeyes this season in whatever format possible. We look forward to all that October will bring to us and are excited to grow in our sisterhood here at Ohio State.

Loyally in the bond,

The Sisters of Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Omicron
